Redispersible Polymer Powder

Redispersible polymer powders are polymer emulsions that have been converted to powdered thermoplastic resin materials by a series of processes such as high temperatures and pressures, spray drying, and surface treatment. When blended with water, these powders redisperse back into liquid emulsions with essentially identical properties to the original emulsions. The redispersible polymer powder is a copolymer of vinyl acetate and ethylene, and is used to improve adhesion and flexibility in a variety of climatic conditions.

VINNAPAS® 5010 N is a versatile dispersible polymer powder developed by WACKER, primarily used in dry mix mortars for construction applications. It is based on a hard copolymer of vinyl acetate and ethylene, offering enhanced adhesion and flexibility without affecting the rheological properties of the mix .

Key Properties
  • Chemical Composition: Vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) copolymer

  • Form: Free-flowing white powder

  • Dispersibility: Readily dispersible in water

  • Performance Enhancements:

    • Improved adhesion on various substrates

    • Enhanced flexural strength and deformability

    • Increased abrasion resistance

    • Neutral impact on leveling, thixotropy, and water retention

  • Additives: Contains a fine mineral filler as an antiblocking agent

  • Environmental Aspects: Produced without organic solvents, plasticizers, or film-forming agents

  • Thermal Properties: Classified as a hard general-purpose powder with no effect on rheological properties .

Typical Applications

VINNAPAS® 5010 N is suitable for a range of construction applications, including:

  • Cementitious tile adhesives

  • Mineral renders and plasters

  • Skim coats

  • Thermal insulation renders

  • Wall and joint fillers

Its formulation flexibility makes it ideal for both standard and specialized construction needs .

Processing Guidelines
  • Mixing: Blend VINNAPAS® 5010 N with other dry ingredients using appropriate equipment. Avoid excessive temperatures during mixing to prevent agglomeration due to its thermoplastic nature.

  • Preparation: Add the recommended amount of water to the dry mix and stir mechanically or by hand. For hand mixing, allow the mixture to slake for 5 minutes before stirring again to ensure uniformity

Packaging and Storage
  • Packaging: Available in 25 kg paper bags; big bags or bulk quantities can be arranged upon request.

  • Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture. Prolonged storage above 30 °C, especially under pressure or humidity, may lead to caking. It is recommended to use the product within six months of delivery for optimal performance

Redispersible polymer powder (RDP) is a compound used in construction to improve the properties of mortar, adhesives, and grouts. Uses
  • Tile adhesivesRDP is used as an additive to improve the strength and flexibility of tile adhesives.
  • Self-leveling compoundsRDP improves the workability, fluidity, and adhesive power of concrete, helping to achieve a smooth and level surface.
  • MortarRDP improves the bonding performance, compressive strength, and flexural strength of mortar. It also increases the elongation of the mortar, improving its impact toughness.
  • Tile groutsRDP is used as an additive to improve the strength and flexibility of tile grouts.
When choosing RDPWhen choosing RDP, you can consider things like:
  • Glass transition temperature: A lower glass transition temperature means better flexibility, but a lower bond.
  • Minimum film formation temperature: A lower minimum film formation temperature means better frost and weathering resistance.
  • Viscosity: For self-leveling systems, it's better to choose a low viscosity RDP.
  • Adhesion: RDP should enhance the bonding power between the mortar and substrate.
