General description:Butyl acetate, also known as butyl ethanoate, is an ester that is a colorless, flammable liquid at room temperature. It is found in many types of fruit, where along with other chemicals, it imparts characteristic flavors and has a sweet smell of banana or apple. 
Application & Usage:

The primary use of all three isomers of butyl acetate is as a solvent in the production of lacquers and paints; photographic film; resins; and coatings for furniture, fixtures, containers, and automobiles. Since the 1990s, these compounds have been substituted for other solvents that are considered hazardous environmental pollutants.

Other uses of the isomers are as follows:

 

• n-butyl acetate: as an odor enhancer in perfumes; in the synthesis of synthetics flavors, pharmaceuticals, and other organic compounds;
• sec-butyl acetate: as a thinner for nail enamels and a solvent for leather finishes;
• tert-butyl acetate: as a gasoline additive.

Ethyl acetate has many uses, including as a solvent, flavoring agent, and in the production of various materials. Solvent

• Used in dry cleaning, stains, and fats
• Used in nail polish, nail polish remover, and other manicuring products
• Used in printing inks, adhesives, and photographic films and plates
• Used in decaffeinating coffee and tea
• Used in column and thin-layer chromatography

• Used in artificial fruit flavorings and essences
• Used in foods and pharmaceuticals
• Used as a synthetic flavoring agent in the US

Production

• Used in the production of artificial silk and leather 
• Used in the production of linoleum, and 'plastic' wood 
• Used in the production of pharmaceuticals, drug intermediates, and acetic acid 
• Used in the production of flexible packaging and for the production of bioriented polypropylene and polyester films 

Other uses 

• Used in the production of airplane glue
• Used in the production of wool fabrics for dyeing
• Used in organic syntheses (esters, drugs)
